Help / Getting started

Get ready for your first call

This walks you from signing up to a real call answered by Jesse. It takes about twenty minutes, and you'll need your phone and a second phone to test with (a friend's or a family member's is fine). By the end, Jesse will know your business, your calls will go to it, and you'll have read your first call summary.

1. Sign up

There are two ways in. Either one ends with the same three things: your business's name, your email, and the terms.

Then:

  1. Type your business's name. If you have a website, type it in and press Read it, and Jesse fills in what it can find. Everything except the name can wait.
  2. If you started on the website, you can also give your mobile, so Jesse knows it's you when you call. It's optional.
  3. Confirm your email with the code we send to it, if you haven't yet. That's how you'll sign in from now on.
  4. Read the terms, check the box, and press Turn on my number.

You'll see "You're live" and a phone number. That's your Jesse number. Write it down.

2. Tell it about your business

On your dashboard, press Talk as the boss. This is your setup helper, not your receptionist. It asks about what's still blank, one thing at a time: your services, the area you cover, your hours, and so on. Answer out loud or type. Say "that's enough" whenever you like.

Watch the Your business form as you talk. Each answer shows up there as it's saved.

3. Hear what a caller hears

Press Try as a customer. Now you're talking to your receptionist, the way your customers will. Ask it something a customer would: "Do you do water heaters?" or "Are you open Saturday?" It answers from what you just told it. Then ask it to take a message, and give it a name and number.

4. Send your calls to it

Open the menu at the top right of your dashboard and pick How to forward your line. The page has the codes for your phone company, with your Jesse number already in them.

Pick Only the calls you miss for now. Your phone rings first like always, and Jesse picks up when you don't. Dial the code from the phone you're forwarding and wait for the confirmation.

5. Make a test call

From the second phone, call your business number and let it ring. Jesse picks up, says it's a virtual assistant, and asks if it's okay to transcribe the call. Say yes, and leave a message like a customer would.

Use someone else's phone for this. When you call from your own, Jesse knows it's you and talks to you as the owner instead.

6. Read the summary

Within a minute or two, check your email. The summary says who called, the number to call back, what they need, and whether it's urgent. The same call is on your dashboard under Calls, with the whole conversation.

You're set

Your calls are covered, and every one ends with a summary in your inbox. When you're ready for more:
