Your number and forwarding
When you sign up, Jesse gets its own phone number. You don't hand that number out. You forward your existing line to it.
Why forwarding
Your customers already have your number. It's on your truck, your cards, your website, and in their phones. Moving it to a new provider means paperwork and a few days where calls can go missing. Forwarding is a setting with your phone company. It takes a minute, and you can turn it off just as fast.
That's also why nobody picks a number at signup. Callers never see it, so which one you get doesn't matter. We pick one close to you.
Missed calls or every call
Only the calls you miss keeps things the way they are on a good day: your phone rings, and you answer. Jesse steps in when you can't, instead of voicemail. Most people start here.
Every call is for days on a roof or under a sink. Nothing rings, and you read the summaries when you come up for air.
You can switch between them with a code any time.
Why the number goes away
A phone number costs us money every month, whether anyone calls it or not, and the phone company bills for it up front. So when a line stops being paid for, we give the number back before the next bill. We email you first, because a forwarded line pointing at a number that's gone means your callers hear nothing. Your account and your details stay, in case you come back.
